APEN Limited seeks Board members



Australasia-Pacific Extension Network Limited (APEN) is seeking to appoint two Board Directors to fill current vacancies. 

APEN is the non-government member based not for profit public company limited by guarantee for extension professionals working in primary industries, natural resource management and communities. Extension professionals work with people in a community to facilitate change in an environment that has social, economic and technical complexity.

The last 12 months has seen APEN transition from an incorporated association to its present structure. A new constitution was agreed to at the 2017 AGM. An inaugural Board was appointed and endorsed at the AGM. It is an exciting time for APEN as it continues to go through significant strategic growth and development in alignment with its 2017-2022 strategic plan. 

In 2018, APEN celebrates its 25-year anniversary since inception.

We are now in the process of seeking Board appointed Directors to advance our mission in supporting those who work in extension and related fields in Australia, New Zealand and the broader Asia Pacific region.

The Board is seeking motivated individuals for a two- or three-year directorship. The organisation requires an active Director with knowledge or experience of the challenges faced by the not-for-profit sector. Directors will need to participate in six Board meetings including one face-to-face two-day planning and strategy meeting per year. 

Directors will enjoy this opportunity to make a large, direct impact on the organisation.

Based on the current Board skills matrix APEN is seeking Directors with the following areas of expertise, although all suitable applicants will be considered.

Corporate and private sector, legal and governance
Communications, marketing, branding
Business development and commercialization of assets
Finance and accounting

The due date for applications is Tuesday 20 February.

Candidates will be reviewed by the nominations committee and a shortlisted selection will be interviewed via teleconference during March 2018. There will be the opportunity to observe a board meeting prior to appointment. Relevant documents can be supplied by the APEN Executive Officer.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Passionate about the mission of APEN in supporting extension professionals;
Previous board experience;
Proactive, driven and sees that projects and tasks are competed;
Thought leader who can proactively initiate continuous improvement;
Sound knowledge of corporate governance;
Outstanding stakeholder management and communications skills;
Attention to detail, ability to prioritise issues and investigate anomalies as they arise;
Willingness to initiate continuous improvement;
Able to attend six board meetings, one face-to-face two-day planning and strategy meeting and commit six to eight hours monthly to execute any board meeting action items.
